Framework for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction, 2015 (Nauru)

The Republic of Nauru Framework for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (RONADapt) embodies Nauru's response to the risks arising from climate change and disasters, particularly those threatening sustainable development. The RONAdapt identifies priority areas with respect to climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) for the purpose of articulating these priorities for all government instrumentalities.

Priority areas include:

  • Agriculture
  • Fisheries and marine resources
  • Disaster management and emergency response
  • Energy, land management and rehabilitation
  • Infrastructure and coastal protection
  • Biodiversity and environment
  • Community development
  • Education and human development

Moreover, the RONAdapt provides a general framework for longer term planning and programming of CCA and DRR activities, including guidance on their mainstreaming in national and sectoral development policies. The RONAdapt aims to advance Nauru's national development priorities and environmental sustainability by pushing to incorporate the reduction of vulnerabilities and risks into planning and activities across all sectors of the economy and society.
