Forestry Rights Registration and Timber Harvest Guarantee, 2000 (Vanuatu)

The Act provides for the registration of certain forestry rights and harvesting and accreditation of timber plantation. It provides that the proprietor of a registered lease may, by instrument in writing in the prescribed form, grant a forestry right over the land, or a part of the land, comprised in the lease. The Act also provides for plan requirements for registration of a forestry right, transfer and variation of a forestry right, assignments, and the duration of a forestry covenant. The Act further governs timber plantations, or those areas where the canopy of trees have been planted for the purpose of timber production. The Act provides for the accreditation of timber plantations, including the procedure for application, determination for accreditation, conditions and duration of accreditation, cancellation of accreditation, review, and the registration of accredited timber plantations. The Act likewise mandates the preparation of a Timber Plantations Code.
