Forestry Regulation 1998 (Papua New Guinea)

The Forestry Regulation implements the Forestry Act of 1991. It provides for the dedication of national forests and the declaration of reserved trees. It also governs the entry of the Forest Authority into contracts, including a Forest Management Agreement. It provides for the procedures in initiating a forest development project including the registration of an Expression of Interest and lodgment of Project Proposals. It contains provision on the issuance of timber permits, including the application, granting, renewal and transfer of such permit, as well as the suspension, reinstatement or cancellation thereof. It also provides for the posting of performance bonds and prescribes a scale of deductions for breaches of conditions of timber permits. It provides for levies payable by holders of timber permits, as well as certain offenses and corresponding penalties.
