Forestry and Climate Change Framework for Action 2009–2015, 2009 (Papua New Guinea)

The Forestry and Climate Change Framework of Papua New Guinea (PNG) is founded on the Constitutional mandate to ensure that the forest resources of the country are used and replenished for the collective benefit of all Papua New Guineans now and for future generation. The Policy has the main objective of the management and protection of the nation's forest resources as a renewable natural asset.

It seeks to achieve the goal of ensuring that PNG people build their capacity to ensure ownership of carbon credits and to be resilient to the risks and impacts of climate change through:

  • Implementing adaptation measures
  • Contributing to mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Improving decision-making and good governance
  • Improving understanding of climate change and its effects
  • Education and awareness
  • Developing and strengthening partnerships and cooperation

The Framework identifies principles to be applied in its implementation and their expected outcomes.
