Five-Year & 20-Year National Development Plan: Transforming Fiji (2017)

The 20-Year Development Plan is hinged on the vision of “Transforming Fiji” towards an even more progressive, vibrant and inclusive society." The Plan consists of two prongs: “Inclusive Socio-economic Development” and “Transformational Strategic Thrusts.” Inclusive Socio-economic Development will ensure that all socio-economic rights in the Constitution are realized. Inclusivity will be at the center of growth and development, and the benefits of prosperity will be spread as widely as possible to improve the social well-being of all Fijians, regardless of geographical location, gender, ethnicity, physical and intellectual capability and social and economic status. Transformational Strategic Thrusts are policy shifts to expand development frontier and support the vision of transforming Fiji. New and emerging growth sectors will be nurtured, connectivity within and to the outside world will be improved, new technologies will be embraced, productivity will be maximized, human capital development will be accelerated and green growth will be a key guiding principle in the implementation of this Plan. The 20-year plan is further translated into individual sector development plans to be implemented over the next five years. With the same two prongs, the Five-Year Plan covers water and sanitation, energy, housing development, food and nutrition security, education, health and medial services, social inclusion and empowerment, youth and sports development, culture and heritage, national security, and rule of law.
