Federated States of Micronesia's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution, 2016

The Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) commits to unconditionally reducing by 28% its 2025 greenhouse gas emissions, below emissions in the year 2000. Further, subject to the availability of additional financial, technical and capacity building support from the international community, the FSM could achieve an additional reduction of up to 35% below emissions in the 2000 base year. The INDC focuses on carbon dioxide and covers the energy sector, with the electricity generation and transport subsectors. It notes that FSM does not intend to use international market mechanisms. In terms of adaptation which constitutes a priority for FSM, adaptation needs post-2020 will be dealt with in the context of the Nation Wide Integrated Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Policy 2013 as the FSM Climate Change Act of 2014, as well as the joint state action plans for disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, rather than within the INDC.
