The Environment Protection Act, 2076 (2019) (Nepal)

Proponents of developmental work are required to prepare an environmental study report, including a detailed analysis of possible effects of the development on the environment, and alternatives to mitigate such effects, which are to be submitted for the approval of the relevant government agency.

The Act further requires an environmental management plan which sets out the proponents' chosen measure to mitigate adverse impacts on the environment, which shall thereafter be subjected to the examination and evaluation of the Ministry or the prescribed body whether the same has been effectively implemented. The Act also discusses the adaptation plan to be adopted by the government to avoid the adverse impact of climate change. It further provides the provisions with respect to the protection of national heritages and environment protection areas.
