Energy Conservation Act, 2012 (Singapore)

The Energy Conservation Act of Singapore mandates energy efficiency requirements and energy management practices to promote energy conservation, improve energy efficiency and reduce impact on the environment of energy consumption. The Act provides energy conservation measures for the domestic and industry sector and the transport sector. For the domestic and industry sectors, the measures include restrictions on supplies of regulated goods through registration, energy labelling, and minimum performance, among others. For the transport sector, the law provides fuel economy labeling, and fuel economy and vehicular emissions certification. The Act also requires the appointment of at least one energy manager to manage the energy use of large energy users in the industry and transport sectors (i.e., consuming at least 54 tera-joules of energy per calendar year in at least two out of the three preceding calendar years). The Act also requires the said entities to monitor and report their energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to submit energy efficiency improvement plans.
