Domestic Violence Prevention Act of Bhutan 2013

The Act defines domestic violence as any act, omission or behavior towards a person which results in physical, sexual, emotional or economic abuse against a person by another person with whom that person is, or has been, in a domestic relationship.

It prescribes the procedures applicable to report domestic violence and the filing a petition on domestic violence before the Court. It also lays down the procedural rules for the conduct of a trial proceeding before the Court applicable for cases of domestic violence. An interim protection order or a protection order may also be issued by the Court if an act of domestic violence is being committed or there is threat that such violence shall be committed.
