Data Privacy Act of 2012, Republic Act No. 10173 (Philippines)

The Data Privacy Act of 2012 recognizes the vital role of information and communications technology in nation-building. It established the National Privacy Commission which is mandated to implement and ensure compliance with the international standards set for data protection embodied in the Republic Act. The Republic Act provides for the regulatory framework to ensure that the privacy of individuals are protected. It enumerates the criteria for lawful processing of personal information, rights of the data subject and obligations of the personal information controller in the implementation of reasonable measures to ensure the protection of personal information against any unlawful processing.
