The Consumer Act of the Philippines, Republic Act No. 7394 (Philippines)

The Consumer Act of the Philippines recognizes the State's policy to protect the consumers' interest and promote their general welfare by establishing standards of conduct for business and industry. The Act mandates the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to establish consumer product quality and safety standards. The DOH, DA and DTI are vested with power to order for the recall, prohibition or seizure from public sale or distribution products which do not comply with product quality and safety standards. The Act further provides for specific prohibited and unlawful acts to ensure the good quality of food, drugs, cosmetics, devices and substances. The Act provides for penalties to protect consumers against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales practices.
