The Constitution of the Solomon Islands

The fundamental law of the Solomon Islands declares that the natural resources of the country are vested in the people and the government of Solomon Islands. It recognizes the Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of individuals in the country including:

  • The right to life, 
  • Right to personal liberty
  • Protection from slavery and forced labor
  • Protection from inhumane treatment, from deprivation of property, for privacy of home and property, and from discrimination
  • Secure protection of law (in criminal proceedings)
  • Freedom of conscience, expression, assembly and association, and movement

It defines citizenship in Solomon Islands as well as the structure of Government, where the head of state is the British Monarch, who is represented by a Governor General, and the head of government is the Prime Minister.
