The Constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia
The fundamental law of the Federated States of Micronesia declares the composition of the state's territory, suffrage, and structure of government. It also defines citizenship in the country. It recognizes fundamental rights including:
- Freedom of expression
- Freedom of religion
- Right to life
- Liberty or property
- Equal protection
- Right against unreasonable searches and seizures or invasion of privacy
- Right to a speedy public trial
- The rights of an accused in a criminal case
- Prohibitions against capital punishment, slavery and voluntary servitude
- Bill of attainder or ex post facto law and imprisonment for debt
- Freedom of movement
It also recognizes the traditions of the people of the state which may be protected by statute.
