Climate Change Adaptation Framework Action Program for the Agriculture and Rural Development Sector 2008–2020, MARD Decision No. 2730/QDBNN-KHCN, 2008 (Viet Nam)
The issuance promulgates the Climate Change Adaptation Framework Action Program for the Agriculture and Rural Development Sector which applies to all bodies involved in agriculture and rural development for the 2008-2020 period. The overall goal of the program is to raise the capacity of the agriculture and rural development sector in mitigation of and adapting to climate change in order to maximally reduce the level of damage and to ensure sustainable development in the field of agriculture and rural development in the context of climate change impacts. It focuses, in particular, on:
- Ensuring stability and safety in cities, areas and regions, especially the Mekong River Delta, the Red River Delta, the Central region and the mountainous areas
- Maintaining stable agricultural production and food security
- Ensuring 3.8 millions of hectares for cultivating two rice crops a year
- Protecting and ensuring the dyke system, civil utility works, and technical and economic infrastructure meet the natural disasters' mitigation and prevention requirements
Specific goals under the overall goal are also identified. The program also enumerates main tasks in order to achieve its objectives, as well as solutions to issues. It likewise outlines the implementation mechanism for the program.
