Climate Change Action Plan for Energy Sector, 2021-2023 (Cambodia)
The Climate Change Action Plan for Energy Sector (CCAPE) has the objectives of:
- Supporting the implementation of Climate Change Strategic Plan of the Royal Government of Cambodia
- Contributing to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the energy sector by updating the power development master plan, which aims to maximize the use of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency by maintaining sufficient, reliable, low-cost, and sustainable energy that is competitive with neighboring countries according to the studied and approved master plan
- Adapting the energy sector to climate change impact
- Increasing the resiliency of energy sector to climate change
- Promoting awareness and capacity in climate change for energy sector
It defines concrete actions and resources needed for operationalization of the Ministry of Mines and Energy's (MMEs) response to climate change for the period 2021-2023, aligning with updated and approved PDP. This CCAP also provides direction on a number of issues which are critical to the energy sector development, including updating the Power Development Master Plan, National Energy Efficiency Policy, climate-proofing of existing and future energy infrastructure, reduction of GHG emissions, and building human resource capacity in the sector to meet the country’s commitments on Sustainable Energy for All. The CCAPE identified priority works of the energy sector for 2021-2023 in responding to climate change. It likewise includes an action plan matrix with the proposed actions for the MME to address concerns relating to climate change.
