Children, Young People and Family Welfare Act (Kiribati)

The Act provides the principles for care and protection of children and young people in decision-making, and defines the roles of parents as primary caregivers of their children. It also defines and provides the responsibilities and roles of the Secretary of the Ministry responsible for child and family welfare, the Director and social welfare officers relating to child and family welfare matters.

The Act also provides the support programs which would strengthen families and communities to be conducted among different sectors such as government, non-government organizations, church and faith-based organizations, and community leaders. It also provides the procedure in cases when there is a request for assistance or information that raises concerns about a child or young person's well-being.
