Brundtland Commission Report (“Our Common Future”)

The Brundtland Commission, then known as the World Commission on Environment and Development, was established by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 38/131, Process of Preparation of the Environmental Perspective to the Year 2000 and Beyond. The commission focused on the pursuit of sustainable development which states should pursue in unity, while protecting and enhancing the environment. In 1987, the commission published its report entitled Our Common Future, discussing common concerns, common challenges and common endeavors among states. Common concerns include threats to the future, the concept of sustainable development and the role of the international economy. Common endeavors include manages commons (oceans, space, Antarctica), as well as peace, security, development and the environment.
