Basic Act for Gender Equal Society, Act No. 78 of 1999 (Japan)
The Act mandates the government to establish a Basic Plan for Gender Equality in order to comprehensively and systematically promote the policies in the formation of a gender equal society. It further created the Council for Gender Equality which is in charge of the administrative affairs with respect to the implementation of the policies of the Act.
