Basic Act on Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas, Act No. 106 of 1999 (Japan)
The government is mandated to establish a basic plan for food, agriculture and rural areas which shall include:
- The basic policy for formulating measures for food, agriculture and rural areas
- Target rate of food self-sufficiency
- Measures to be implemented by the government
- Other matters necessary to promote the provisions of the Act
It also provided for the objectives, principles and measures to be observed with respect to securing a stable food supply, sustainable development of agriculture and development of rural areas.
