Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004, Republic Act No. 9262 (Philippines)

The Anti Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 (AVAWC) penalizes violence committed against women and children. This Act recognizes the State's policy to value the dignity of women and children, and the need to protect them from violence and threats to their personal safety and security. AVAWC enumerates the punishable acts committed by any person against his wife, former wife, or with whom he has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child (whether legitimate or illegitimate) through physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and/or economic abuse.
