Act on Securing, Etc. of Equal Opportunity and Treatment between Men and Women in Employment, Act No. 113 of 1972 (Japan)

The Act prohibits employers from discriminating against workers on the basis of sex on matters including assignment of duties, promotion, demotion and training of workers, among others. Employers are further prohibited from stipulating marriage, pregnancy or childbirth as a ground for retirement of women workers. 

The Act also enumerated the responsibilities of the State, employers and workers concerning problems caused by sexual harassment in the workplace, and harassment related to pregnancy and childbirth in the workplace.
