ADB Holds Comprehensive Training for Cambodian Judges on Climate and Environmental Law

ADB
ADB Law and Policy Reform Program collaborates with the Royal Academy for Justice of Cambodia to provide comprehensive training for judges in handling climate and environmental law litigation.

On 11–15 March 2024, ADB's Law and Policy Reform Program collaborated with the Royal Academy for Justice of Cambodia to provide comprehensive training for judges in handling climate and environmental law litigation. This workshop marked a significant innovation in judicial education on environmental law because it focused on the craft of adjudication, complementing previous training on climate and environmental law. Participants learned essential skills such as comprehensive case management, interpreting scientific evidence, overseeing expert witnesses, and crafting enforceable decisions. ADB welcomed Hon. Justice Brian Preston (Chief Judge, Land and Environment Court of New South Wales), Professor Amanda Kennedy (QUT), and Assoc. Professor Jonathan Liljeblad (Australian National University) as teachers. The workshop was the culmination of a series of judicial training sessions for Cambodian judges, specifically centered around climate change and environmental law. ADB will package all materials presented in the three training workshops since September 2023 as a judicial curriculum on climate and environmental law for use by the Royal Academy for Justice of Cambodia, as well as adapt the curriculum for other developing member countries.
