ADB Supports Cambodian Judges Workshop on International Commercial Arbitration

ADB Office of the General Counsel's Law and Policy Reform Program supported an international commercial arbitration workshop for Cambodian judges convened by the National Commercial Arbitration Centre (NCAC) and the Ministry of Justice on 25 November via Zoom. Arbitration is an important method of dispute resolution within the international business community and key to Cambodia's international trade and investment agenda. Through an interactive case study, the workshop focused on a review of the Law on Commercial Arbitration 2006, key provisions of the New York Convention and the UNCITRAL Model Law, and practical aspects of the judiciary's role in international commercial arbitration. Hon. Justice Anselmo Reyes and Hon. Sir Bernard Eder served as presenters.

Justice Reyes is currently an International Judge at the Singapore International Commercial Court. Before that, he was a judge of the Hong Kong High Court from September 2003 to September 2012, where he was in charge of the Construction and Arbitration List (2004-2008) and the Commercial and Admiralty Lists (2008-2012). He was Representative of the Hague Conference on Private International Law’s Regional Office Asia Pacific from April 2013 to July 2017.

Sir Bernard Eder is currently a full-time international arbitrator/mediator based at 24 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. He was a Judge of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales (2011–2015) and International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court (2015–2016). In June 2016, he was appointed an Acting Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court sitting in the Commercial Court, British Virgin Islands.
