ADB Partners with Uzbekistan Supreme Court Towards Investor-Friendly Commercial Dispute Resolution Ecosystem

On 28 March 2025, ADB and the Uzbekistan Supreme Court held a ceremony to mark the successful conclusion of a two-year judicial capacity-building program and the handover of 295 copies of the International Commercial Arbitration Handbook for Judges to be distributed to all economic court judges nationwide. Furthermore, with the Uzbekistan Supreme Court’s support, the Handbook has been disseminated widely to provide valuable insights to the international community.
Developed with the assistance of the ADB’s Law and Policy Reform Program, the trilingual Handbook in Uzbek, Russian, and English is a practical guide for judges in handling arbitration-related cases. The Handbook covers essential topics such as the enforcement of arbitration agreements, court assistance during arbitration proceedings, and recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
This work builds on ADB’s technical assistance in the drafting of the Uzbekistan Law on International Commercial Arbitration (2021), as well as the Ancillary Law (2022) governing the procedures of arbitration-related cases.
To support the effective implementation of the Law on International Commercial Arbitration, ADB supported capacity building programs for judges, lawyers, and the private sector as users.
The availability of an efficient and effective mechanism to solve cross-border commercial disputes is fundamental to attracting foreign direct investment and cross-border trade and creating an enabling environment for private sector development.
