ADB Discussed Capacity Building on Gender-Based Violence Cases with Timor-Leste Legal and Judicial Training Center

One ADB Team from the Office of the General Counsel, Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department and Timor-Leste Resident Mission met with Judge Antonino Gonçalves, Director of Timor-Leste Legal and Judicial Training Center to discuss capacity building of judges and prosecutors on violence against women and girls cases.
One ADB Team from the Office of the General Counsel, Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department and Timor-Leste Resident Mission met with Judge Antonino Gonçalves, Director of Timor-Leste Legal and Judicial Training Center to discuss capacity building of judges and prosecutors on violence against women and girls cases.

Judge Antonino Gonçalves, Director of the Legal and Judicial Training Center, met with the ADB Law and Policy Reform Team to discuss customized training modules for judges and prosecutors. The training program covered violence against women and girls (VAWG) laws and procedures, a review of jurisprudence on VAWG cases, international conventions, legal principles, and standards relating to the procedural and substantive rights of women and girls. To aid in judicial decision-making and effective judgment writing, the technical assistance developed tools such as bench books, handbooks, protocols, and/or guidelines on handling VAWG cases.
