ADB and Kyrgyz Republic Advance Dialogue on Recycling EV Batteries and Solar PV Waste
As the Kyrgyz Republic expands clean energy and electric mobility, managing end-of-life EV batteries and solar PV panels is becoming an important policy challenge. On 24 February, ADB convened government and industry stakeholders in Bishkek to discuss how the Kyrgyz Republic can address the growing issue of end-of-life EV batteries and solar PV panels. Participants—including ministries, regulatory agencies, utilities and private energy firms—underscored the need for legal and policy frameworks to support the safe collection, transport, storage, and recycling of this growing waste stream, while creating opportunities for circular economy approaches. The mission reflected strong One ADB collaboration, with the Energy–Emerging Areas team helping bring together a wide range of stakeholders and build buy-in. The strong turnout and broad engagement showed clear demand for further support, including on legal frameworks, technical standards, and technology-related knowledge sharing.
