ADB and ADBI launch Carbon Markets Webinar Series to Support Policymakers and Public Sector Stakeholders on Legal and Policy Carbon Markets Infrastructure Development

On 28-29 May, ADB General Counsel Thomas M. Clark and ADB Institute (ADBI) Dean Bambang Brodjonegoro welcomed participants to the launch of the Carbon Markets Webinar Series, a capacity building workshop developed by the ADB Office of the General Counsel’s Law and Policy Reform Program in collaboration with ADBI. The webinar series will dive into various key topics on carbon markets and intersecting legal and policy considerations. The first workshop (entitled “Interplay between Article 6 and Voluntary Carbon Markets”) was designed to equip policymakers and other public sector stakeholders with the practical tools needed to understand the purpose and context of existing carbon markets. The workshop drew in a total of around 100+ participants over two runs. ADB expert Ms. Belinda Ellington of Ellington Resolution Ltd. led the presentations, along with Mr. Urwah Khan from the UN Environmental Programme – Copenhagen Climate Center and Mr. Cahyadi Yudodahono, Head of the Indonesia Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Secretariat. The presentations focused on carbon markets and Article 6 fundamentals, verified carbon credits, and implementation of the Indonesia JCM. The remaining sessions will focus on strengthening legal frameworks for equitable and sustainable carbon credit implementation, legal and regulatory frameworks (with examples from select countries), and dispute resolution.
