Singapore's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution and Accompanying Information (2016)
The Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) states that Singapore intends to reduce its Emissions Intensity by 36% from 2005 levels by 2030, and stabilize its emissions with the aim of peaking around 2030. Thus, its greenhouse gas emission is projected to be 0.113 kgCO2e/S$ in 2030. The sectors covered by the INDC are energy, industrial processes and product use, agriculture, land use, land-use change and forestry, and waste. Singapore's Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change drives the whole-of-government effort to develop Singapore's climate change mitigation measures. Singapore intends to achieve the mitigation objectives under its INDC through domestic efforts, but will continue to study the potential of international market mechanisms. In terms of fairness and ambition, the INDC states that Singapore currently accounts for around 0.11% of global emissions and its mitigation contributions must be viewed in the context of Singapore's circumstances and limited access to renewable energy. The INDC also sets out Singapore's longstanding and future actions to increase resilience. Long-term adaptation planning has been integrated into national policies, with the recognition that adaptation solutions cannot be implemented overnight.
