Office of the Environmental Planning and Policy Coordination Act 2003 (Marshall Islands)
The Act establishes the Office of Environmental Planning and Policy Coordination (Office) which is empowered to act as an advisory body to the Office of the President, Cabinet, the Ministries and government agencies, on matters of environmental planning and policy, generally to act as the focal point of contact in the coordination, management and implementation of all international environmental projects/programs and to ensure the successful implementation of such projects, to act as the national focal point of contact in all negotiations with external sources and lending institutions on programs and/or projects of assistance.
The Office is organized into three units, namely:
- An Environmental Policy and Planning Unit
- A Program Coordination Unit
- Data Collection and Analysis Unit
The Environmental Policy and Planning Unit has the functions, among others, of advising the cabinet on international conventions and agreements in which the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is or is considering being a party to, and conduct environmental or scientific reviews or assessments including vulnerability assessment.
The functions of the Program Coordination Unit include coordinating, managing, and implementing international environmental programs/projects and be responsible for its successful implementation.
The Data Collection and Analysis Unit shall collect and compile reports of international meetings attended by RMI, and collect and compile data on vulnerability assessments and greenhouse gas inventories.
