Alternative Learning System Act, Republic Act No. 11510 (Philippines)

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) programs include:

  • Basic literacy program
  • Accreditation and equivalency (A&E) program
  • Indigenous peoples education program
  • Academic-focused bridging program
  • Functional education program
  • Literacy programs, among others

The Act further created the Bureau of Alternative Education, which serves as the focal office for the implementation of the ALS programs of the Department of Education. Alternative learners who pass elementary level A&E are qualified for enrollment to junior high school. Those who pass junior high school A&E are qualified for senior high school or may enroll in any technical vocational education, and those who pass senior high school are qualified for higher education.
