James Correia

James Correia is a Research and Capacity Building Associate at the ADBI, and is pursuing his PhD in Global Environmental Governance at the University of Tokyo. He has almost a decade of experience in advancing international economic and environmental cooperation, developing policy research and analysis, and contributing to public governance, institutional reform, and sustainable development. 

Across a range of posts with the New Zealand Government, he was involved in negotiating the EU-NZ FTA, monitoring and reporting on the EU Green Deal, deepening regional commitments with ASEAN, APEC, and the CPTPP, and supporting the COVID-19 response and recovery. He previously completed the OECD Young Professionals' Programme (YPP), analyzing international regulatory cooperation (IRC), drafting a chapter of the Regulatory Policy Outlook, and developing a Compendium of International Organizations' Practices. He has also worked with international trade at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), multilevel governance at the EU, and migration policy research at Trinity College Dublin.

James has a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from Maastricht University, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Politics and International Studies from the University of Melbourne, and Executive Certificates on Law and Sustainability from Oxford University, GHG MRV from UNU-IAS, and Migration Policy from the European University Institute (EUI).
